My Philosophy
My Story

My Name is Tamika, I became a Doula because I've always been fascinated with the pregnancy and birthing process since I was a child. No matter how many women I meet or see stories or videos on TV it never ceases to amazing how amazing the woman's body is. I think birth is such a beautiful process and it teaches a woman new things about herself. I used to work in retail and hospitality and they were great stepping stones into the world of being a Doula.

I relate well with others, know how to respond to and resolve conflicts. I can respond to concerns and motivate a team (mommy and daddy to be). Time management and multitasking are second nature as well as setting and attaining goals. Working as a manager helped me develop leadership skills such as: decision making, planning, motivating others and problem solving. One very important factor is team building; because I will be joining your team to help welcome your baby into this world. As you know it takes a village to raise a child.

I currently live with my sister, nephew and his beautiful 2-year-old son! We reside in Oakland, Ca. This is where I was born and raised. Around the age of 11 I resided in Castro Valley where I lived until 2017. I'm now back in Oakland. When I'm not working I love to spend time with my great nephew and hang with friends. Because of the great weather in the bay area I spend a lot of time at the beach or lakes to enjoy the fresh air. I also love to go to the movies and have a Netflix night with my family. My favorite TV show is Grey's Anatomy; I have watched every season at least 4 times on Netflix! I watch so much I think I'm a surgeon now! ha! I currently do not have any children, but I do plan on having one…or four! I think children are a beautiful and wonderful blessing. I look forward to welcoming my own child one day and experiencing labor so I can see what it’s like to be on the other side!

My Training

I believe a woman should have control of her own body and should be able to trust in her natural instincts. She should be allowed to eat and move as freely as she pleases. I also feel there is no wrong way to give birth rather it be at a hospital, birth center, her own home, in a pool, on a bed or on a toilet. Whatever makes her comfortable is all that matters.

“Tamika provided excellent care during my labor. I was able to reach 10 cm with very little medicine until the pain was unbearable. Being able to walk and practice different breatjing methods made labor much easier.”. Alisha M.
